Is Jesus of Nazareth the Son of God?

Jesus of Nazareth is a historical figure. Is He the Son of God? That is the question to be resolved. The answer is found in the word of God. One of the strongest proofs that Jesus is who He claimed to be is found in fulfilled prophecy. Jesus said in John 5:39, “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.” There are hundreds of prophecies written about the Messiah in the Old Testament that Jesus fulfilled completely. Not one prophecy written about Him was left unfulfilled. Jesus not only made the claim for Himself, so also did John the Baptist. John said regarding Jesus, “I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God” (John 1:34). God the Father, from heaven, also verbally acknowledge Jesus as His son when He said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17).

Besides prophecy the miracles Jesus performed are strong proof of his deity. In John 5:36, it says, “But I have greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish-the very works that I do-bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent me.” Even the enemies of Jesus could not deny that he did many signs, wonders and miracles. The ultimate proof that Jesus was and is the Son of God is in His resurrection from the dead (Romans 1:4).
